Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!
incline: to cause to lean or bend in a particular direction.
The Lord God was speaking here with Moses and He told him that He wanted the people to bend their hearts in a particular direction, in respect and obedience to Him. Not in the fear of reprisal, but reverence and awe. And God gave two reasons why they should do this: (1) that life would be well for the adults; and (2) because the adults respected and obeyed God and taught their children to do the same, life would be well for their children FOREVER! Now THAT'S something awesome!
Everything we do has a ripple effect, either good or bad. We can emphatically assert that even the tiniest action will affect others in some way. And here, God is stating that when we live a life that respects, honors and obeys Him, the ripple effect will go out in a very positive way and the effects on us and OUR CHILDREN will be for the good forever. Our God is not looking out just for us, but for all of our issue until He returns!!!!! It don't get no better then that friends.
God has promised good to all who will love, respect and obey Him, but we must play a part in this also. We must teach our children and those we love to follow in His steps. Our children are a gift from God that must be cherished, protected, and taught the ways of the Lord. And we do this by our ACTIONS and DEEDS more then our speeches and sermons. Our children watch everything we do and they copy us. So the question is: what are they seeing? Is the Fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control - evidenced in our lives? Is our speech kind and gentle? Do those around us hear us praising and thanking Jesus Christ for His mercies an compassions on a consistent and constant basis?
Have we bent our hearts in reverence, awe, and complete obedience to Almighty God?
"Lord Jesus, Master of all that I am and am not, forgive me and strengthen me to do your bidding. My heart wants only you, but I am weak and often fall. Speak to me, Jesus, fill my heart with praise and worship for You. I want to honor yo with my life. Help me to incline my heart to You, and You alone. Amen."
