"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us."
At one time or another, we have all talked to someone and felt as though we were talking to a wall. Everything we said just bounced off of them and they never replied to what was said. We became so frustrated we wanted to scream "HEY - LISTEN TO ME - I'M TALKING TO YOU!" All to no avail. Are you with me?
When people don't want to interact with us for any reason, they tune us out. As a young mother I learned to tune out the jibbering nonsense of my kids unless there was a hurt cry or a yell for help. Then I was instantly alert. My "protective radar" was always working. I could go about my work while ignoring the play noise. But as soon as one of the boys would come and wrap his arms around my leg and ask for a cookie or juice, all my senses were centered on him. There had been no fighting or angry words with his brother and he came to me in love. A mother's heart melts at times like this. My friend's little girl is about 18 months old. Recently she said sometimes she thinks she's simply looking into the face of an angel and her heart melts everyday. This is the confidence our children have, that they can come to us and get what they ask for.
That is our relationship with Jesus. When we are obedient; when we refrain from sinning and instantly repent when we do; when we talk to Jesus and tell Him we love him; when we share our life with Him, His heart melts when He looks at us. "That's my child, whom I dearly love. What is your heart's desire, that I may bless you." We know our Abba Daddy hears us because we are right where He wants us, in the center of His will.
The confidence of children, dearly loved children, tickles the heart of Jesus. Remember, He told us that we must become as little children to enter heaven. Here's one of those ways. We simply crawl up into His lap and say "I love you Abba Daddy............" and then we lay back against His chest, feeling snug and secure, and greatly loved, savoring the intimacy, craving more.
Do you have that supreme confidence that you can ask for anything? Do you believe God hears you? Are you centered in His will?
"Abba, I love you. My desire is to always be in Your will, but I don't always make it. Help me, Abba, day by day, to be the child you've created me to be. I just want to crawl into your lap and get lost in your love. I only desire to please you. Show me the way. Amen."
